HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii at Manoa is now offering a master’s degree in artificial intelligence (AI).

A graduate certificate program in AI and data science are also new additions.

The University says the certification program is designed to help those working in other industries to transition into technology roles.

The AI master’s degree is designed for those who already have a computer science background.

Students in both programs will work on projects to mirror what’s being done in the job market.

UH Manoa Associate Professor Mahdi Belcaid said, “AI is moving very quickly and changing how we live and how we work and if Hawaii wants to have a say in how AI is used, how AI is leveraged, and which communities and how it helps our communities, then we have to do it right now.”

Classes for the program begin this fall, applications are now open.
