Sofia Ferreira

    Sofia is an undergraduate international student from Paraguay at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She is majoring in Marine Science and is interested in applying Data Science tools to enhance coral reef research. Sofia was previously a Hawai‘i EPSCoR’s ‘Ike Wai Data Science scholar, and also participated in two ‘Ike Wai Data Science summer research programs. As a junior fellow, Sofia is working on applying Artificial Intelligence tools to automate coral species detection and classification from coral reefs imagery obtained using structure-from-motion photogrammetry.
