An Introduction to Jetstream 2
ABOUT EVENT
Workshop Instructors: Kaiapuni Roseguo, UH Information Technology Services – Research Cyberinfrastructure
This workshop focuses on introducing researchers and educators, who may have had little to no experience with national compute resources, to the NSF ACCESS program by using Jetstream2, a user-friendly cloud environment where users can create and manage virtual machines.
Attendees will learn how to use Jetstream2 via the Exosphere user interface, learn how to manage an ACCESS allocation, and will demonstrate an example use case for a Jetstream2 instance by serving a web chat interface from a Jetstream2 VM.
Prerequisites
- Have or create an NSF ACCESS (previously XSEDE) account (View instructions on Creating an Access Account)
- Have a Hugging Face account (https://huggingface.co/join), (Optional): request access on Hugging Face to LLama-3.2-1B-Instruct (https://huggingface.co/meta-llama/Llama-3.2-1B-Instruct),
- Have a modern web browser
- Basic understanding of Linux commands
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, attendees will:
- have a basic understanding of NSF ACCESS and how to manage an allocation
- have a basic understanding of the process to submit an Explore allocation request
- have a basic understanding of the features of Jetstream2
- have a basic understanding of how to use the Exosphere user interface to create and manage a virtual machine on Jetstream2
