Workshop Description

This workshop will attempt to provide a clear overview of artificial intelligence (AI) accessible to a general audience. We will attempt to define the term “AI” and examine the history of the key events which have led the field to its current state. Fundamental concepts and techniques will be covered such as goals of and approaches to AI, the bias-variance tradeoff, computing, common mathematical models employed, interacting with AI, and future directions of the field. Discussion and audience interaction is encouraged and welcomed, and resources for further study will be provided. The audience can expect to leave with a clearer understanding of the terms and concepts ubiquitous within the field of AI and a stronger base of prerequisite knowledge for future HIDSI workshops.

Prerequisites

No prior knowledge is assumed beyond basic logical and quantitative reasoning skills. Optional prior reading will be provided in advance of the workshop.

Learning Objectives

The audience can expect to leave with a clearer understanding of the terms and concepts ubiquitous within the field of AI and a stronger base of prerequisite knowledge for future HIDSI workshops.
