The objective of this class is to introduce students to the broad field of data visualization, and relevant software tools, so that they are able to obtain a basic mastery of the skills needed turn raw data into effective visualizations of the data and to evaluate the efficacy of visualizations.

The class is open to both undergraduates and graduates students and students from disciplines other than computer science are very welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring their data. While some programming experience is useful, it is not absolutely necessary.
